Food service director outlines summer meal pickups, home deliveries and daily sites

Kurt Bodell, MSD Martinsville’s food service director, told the school board the district will continue its long‑running summer meal program and add a weekly meal distribution pickup this year at Faith Church.
The board heard that the district has operated summer meals for about 17–18 years. New this year is a weekly meal pickup at Faith Church (off U.S. 44 and State Road 69) that families can sign up for the week before and then pick up on the following Wednesday. The district also will continue home meal deliveries once a week in Ray, Baker and southwest Jefferson Township and daily meal service at Martinsville High School and the YMCA.
Bodell said the pickup sign‑up helps the district plan quantities. He described eligibility and serving times: "There's basically, the qualifications are anybody age 1 to 18. There's no income, anything like that. On the walk up sites, at the high school, we serve 11:30 to 12:30, and that's daily at the high school. And then the Y... 11:15 to about 11:45," Bodell said.
Bodell also explained that Indiana did not renew an earlier USDA‑funded "Sunbucks" program this year, a state decision that affects local availability of those funds; the district will not participate because the state did not renew the program.
Bodell said the district publishes sign‑up links and full details through ParentSquare and on the district meal site (artiescafe.org). Board members thanked him and asked that the district share pick‑up sign‑up information broadly before summer.
The board did not take a formal vote on the presentation; it received the update and did not change program eligibility or schedule during the meeting.
