Residents urge council to repave Monroe Street after decade of complaints

Steven Jersa, who lives on Monroe Street, told the council the road has been in poor condition for about a decade. “The road is really bumpy. We’ve been asked, we’ve been asking for a while, 10 years, to see if it can get repaved,” Jersa said. He recounted repeated promises from staff in 2016 and 2019 that repaving was included on multi-year plans that never materialized. “They said we are on a 3 year plan. We will be done sometime within the 3 years. Three years passed, nothing happened,” he said.
Neighbor Richard Johnson also urged councilors to drive Monroe Street and see conditions firsthand. Residents described intermittent repairs, patching and tar that tracked into yards, and concerns about curbs and sewer work that preceded promised paving.
Councilors did not take immediate action on the spot but acknowledged the concerns and suggested staff follow up with Public Works to confirm scheduling and budgeting for street repairs.
