The Caldwell County Board of Commissioners on May 12 voted unanimously to postpone consideration of an amendment to the county racetrack and dragstrip ordinance to allow staff time to obtain additional technical information about a retaining wall and to permit further review.
County staff described changes under consideration that would add February and a week in November to the season, adjust weekend operating hours and add a new section permitting weekday “test and tune” events Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The text presented would move a starting time to 10 a.m. for certain permitted days and add weekday testing hours within the February–November season.
Several commissioners said they wanted inspection work completed and clarity about the status and specification of a wall at the facility before approving code changes. County attorney outlined the ordinance‑adoption procedure: because the first reading was not unanimous, statute requires the board to consider the amendment at its next meeting and permits approval within 100 days of introduction; if the board amends the amendment, staff recommended treating the next consideration similarly to a first reading so procedural requirements are met.
Commissioner Starnes moved to delay action to obtain more information; the motion carried unanimously. The board asked staff and legal counsel to schedule the item for a future meeting after the requested technical information is provided.
