Richfield council approves Safe Routes project contract, MnDOT grant and park construction management agreements

The Richfield City Council on May 13 approved multiple infrastructure and maintenance items via the consent calendar, including a construction contract and grant acceptance for Safe Routes to School projects and agreements for park and stormwater work.
The council authorized the mayor and city manager to execute a contract with New Look Contracting Inc. for the Seventieth Street Safe Routes to School project in the amount of $624,672.75 and gave the city manager authority to approve contract changes up to $175,000 without further council consideration. The council also adopted a resolution accepting a Safe Routes to School infrastructure grant from the Minnesota Department of Transportation for intersection improvements along 60th Street and Russell Avenue near Sheridan Hills Elementary School.
Additional consent items included a maintenance agreement with 9 Mile Creek Watershed District clarifying ownership and maintenance responsibilities for stormwater infrastructure around Adams Hill Pond and an agreement with Loffler Construction LLC for construction management services at Veterans Memorial Park, which covers improvements including the Richfield Public Pool and Ice Arena. The consent calendar also approved a Bloomington‑provided inspection services agreement for food, pools, lodging, therapeutic massage and body‑art establishments and several licensing and event approvals.
City staff noted the Seventieth Street award and MnDOT grant support pedestrian and bicycle safety near schools and that the contract change authorization will allow efficient project administration. The council voted to approve the entire consent calendar in a single motion and there were no separate objections recorded on these items.
