Assistant City Manager Alicia Summers and Assistant City Manager Steve Willis described the lease during the consent agenda presentation. Summers told commissioners ETSU will occupy portions of the building to host community events and programing; the university will provide additional details to the commission at a future meeting. Willis noted the building’s recent restoration — including preserved historic features — and said the courthouse serves as an anchor for the city’s West Walnut Corridor revitalization.
The lease was included on the consent agenda and approved with the commission’s consent. Staff recommended approval; commissioners thanked staff and ETSU for the partnership and encouraged the university to present more on planned programming at an upcoming meeting.
