County says Vital Farms has not applied for permits; officials will seek more information amid traffic concerns

County staff told Jefferson County commissioners on May 15 that Vital Farms, a company based in Austin, Texas, had not applied for permits through the county but that staff had observed some land work at a proposed site in the northeast part of the county.

"They have not applied for any permits through our department," the county staff member said. The same staff member said the company had water and electric service at the location and that he and another staff member "were out there, and we saw them where they've done some land work, but nothing no structural."

Residents and staff raised concerns about truck access and large vehicles on county roads. The staff member said planners had fielded calls from the public about semitrailer maneuverability at the site and that the county's planning/attorney team would analyze traffic and permit thresholds: "Pat's aware and he's gonna do some analysis for me and he's working on that," the staff member said.

The staff member also said he had not yet met with Vital Farms representatives to obtain details about operations or timing: "I wanna get some more information from them exactly what's gonna happen, how it's gonna happen, and when it's gonna happen. We haven't got that information yet." County staff said they would continue outreach to Vital Farms, pursue any necessary permit reviews, and report back to the commission.

No permit application or formal project approval was recorded in the meeting. The commission did not take formal action; staff said county counsel would review the facts and return with findings or recommendations to the board.
