County finance update: first two quarters show $2.5M draw on general fund balance

County finance staff presented a brief update on revenues and expenditures for the first two quarters of fiscal year 2025 across the general fund, fire-rescue fund and road department fund.
The general fund began FY25 with a fund balance of $17.9 million. Revenue for the first two quarters was just under $10 million and expenditures approached $12 million, resulting in a $2.5 million use of the fund balance and a March 31 balance of about $15.4 million. Staff projected a year-end fund balance of roughly $12.8 million if current trends continue.
The fire-rescue fund began the year with a $835,000 balance. First-half revenue, including budgeted transfers, was approximately $4.1 million; expenditures totaled about $3.9 million, yielding an increase of roughly $212,000 and a March 31 balance just over $1 million. If trends hold, staff projected a year-end balance near $1.2 million.
The road department fund began FY25 with just over $1 million. Revenue for the first two quarters was about $1.1 million and expenditures about $1.2 million, producing a $55,000 use of fund balance and a March 31 balance of approximately $968,000; staff projected a year-end balance just over $900,000.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions; staff said more detailed budget work will be presented with the tentative budget in August.
