Bradford County commissioners unanimously approved a 16-person slate recommended by the fair board selection committee and named Paul Huntley as chair.
The selection committee presented its list to the Board, and commissioners discussed the desirable makeup of a county fair board, including agricultural, horticultural, entertainment and arts representation. One commissioner urged expanding the board toward the statute's allowed maximum to ensure broader community representation.
Commissioner discussion noted that some applicants provided resumes or background information while others submitted only names; several commissioners said the committee likely relied on personal knowledge when scoring applicants. "When I looked at it, I wondered how they made those selections ... I assume they probably" used personal knowledge, one commissioner said.
After discussion, a motion to accept all applicants and appoint Paul Huntley as chair passed unanimously. The county administrator indicated the committee had spoken with Huntley and that he and another member were willing to serve as recommended.
Commissioners said they expect the new board to pursue a mix of agricultural and entertainment events that could help generate revenue for the fairgrounds and broaden participation across the county.
