Board approves Montgomery Christian School's special exception to use Aldersgate site as private school

The Montgomery City Board of Adjustments approved a special exception on Oct. 11 allowing Montgomery Christian School to use the former Aldersgate United Methodist Church property at 6610 Vaughn Road as a private K-5 school.
Jeff Gulich, chairman of Montgomery Christian School's board, told the board the school offers Christian education focused on scholarship for lower-income students and requires parent involvement. Gulich said the school currently serves kindergarten through fifth grade with one classroom per grade and is adding additional classes incrementally. He said the site purchase contract will allow the school to continue a preschool program and that Aldersgate United Methodist Church would lease a parlor area for Sunday services with an expected 30 to 50 members.
With no public speakers recorded, a board member moved, a second was recorded, and the board voted unanimously to grant the special exception. The petitioner said the school plans to take over the facility and operate the preschool under Montgomery Christian School as of July 1; the board's approval allows the use as a private school subject to any building- and safety-related permits required by city staff.
