The Montgomery City Board of Adjustments on Oct. 11 approved a side-yard setback variance for an addition to the Pelser YMCA at 3407 Tulsa Avenue that will encroach into a city right of way that extends into the property.
Taylor Watson of PEC represented the YMCA and said the proposed addition, described as a wilderness and exercise space, sits on the east side of the building and would replace a playground area. Watson explained the adjacent property line is part of a city right of way (a city easement) that extends into the YMCA parking lot and abuts the planned addition.
Board members confirmed the addition would remove existing playground equipment and noted that the city right of way crosses into the property near the drainage ditch (3 Mile Branch). With no members of the public speaking, a motion to approve the side-yard variance passed following a second and a voice vote recorded by the chair. The transcript records the vote as in favor.
