Rich Gardner, director of Public Utilities, said Clearwater reuses nearly 3,600,000 gallons of reclaimed water per day, about 33% of the city’s wastewater treatment output, and noted the city’s permitted reuse capacity exceeds 12,000,000 gallons per day — figures staff presented as part of the proclamation to encourage residents to conserve freshwater supplies.
Gardner and other utilities staff introduced members of the reclaimed-water management team present in the chamber and thanked the council for supporting the reuse program. The proclamation noted that May is typically a dry month and that reuse is an important tool for conservation during high-demand periods.
The proclamation is ceremonial but contains operational data the utility department said it uses to educate residents and support water-conservation messaging.
