Clarksburg council approves ordinance to continue multiple levies, will submit question to voters

The Clarksburg City Council voted to approve, on second and final reading, an ordinance to continue several municipal levies and to submit the question to city voters at the May 2026 election.

The ordinance covers levies for the Board of Park Commissioners (for improvements, maintenance, repairs, equipment, vehicles and capital projects), for streets, alleys, sidewalks and bridges, and for vehicles and equipment for the police and fire departments. Notices of the public hearing were published in the Telegram on May 6 and May 13, the council record states.

Council opened and closed a public hearing on the ordinance with no members of the public speaking, then approved a motion to adopt the measure. The meeting minutes record the motion, a second and the voice vote: “Aye” and “Motion carries.” The ordinance moves forward for placement on the May 2026 ballot for voter consideration.

The council did not provide an ordinance number or a detailed vote tally in the transcript; the hearing notice publication dates were read into the record by city staff. The measure will require voters’ approval at the referenced election before the continuance takes effect.

City officials and council members discussed parks, public safety equipment and the city’s park system in later remarks but made no additional motions that amended the levy ordinance at the meeting.
