Community Activities Commission votes to recommend moving term‑end date to Oct. 31

Commission members at the May 14 meeting discussed changing the Community Activities Commission term‑end date so outgoing appointments do not fall in the busiest event period. Chair Nathan Sticks said the current July 31 end date is “potentially very disruptive” and proposed recommending a new date. Commissioners discussed other options such as October 31 and December 31 and raised onboarding and holiday timing considerations.
After brief discussion the commission agreed on October 31 as the preferred new term‑end date and agreed to make a recommendation to city council. Chair Sticks asked if anyone opposed the October 31 recommendation; none spoke up and the commission recorded the vote on the record with no opposition.
The decision is a recommendation only; council must approve any change to appointment dates. Commissioners said the shift should give staff and commissioners more time for recruitment and onboarding before the summer season begins.
