A representative of the Montana Natural History Center handed out materials on the Clark Fork Watershed and related wetlands and classroom resources to help residents and teachers explain where the Clark Fork originates, where it flows and what local problems affect it.
The outreach emphasized place-based education: brochures on wetlands and a “Nature Web” resource were presented as teaching tools for children and families. The center representative said the materials will “help you to find out where the Clark Fork is coming from and where it's going and what the problems are.”
Stella Lascar, a presenter at the event, explained how winter temperature inversions affect Missoula air quality: cold ground-level air can trap pollutants and keep them near the surface until a large storm clears the air. “So you have a warm air traffic boulder, and the boulder gets full of carbon dioxide,” Lascar said, describing why pollution concentrates in winter and why organizers were urging residents to consider alternatives to single-occupancy vehicle trips.
Presenters tied the watershed and air-quality messages to behavior: encouraging biking, carpooling and more efficient vehicles to help reduce local emissions during stagnation episodes. The materials distribution and demonstrations were educational outreach rather than a formal policy action; no regulatory measures were proposed or voted on at the event.
Organizers suggested the materials and demonstrations are available to schools and families interested in watershed and air-quality education; no formal partnerships or funding commitments were announced at the event.
