The Cocoa Beach City Commission voted 5-0 to approve a property owner’s request to extend brick pavers into the FDOT right of way at 142 Minutemen Causeway.
Public Works Director Bridal Kalzo described the request as a limited extension of the owner’s pavers to tie into existing city-maintained pavers. Landed Shear, the civil engineer representing the property owner, said the addition extends the pavers approximately 6 to 10 inches to make a seamless connection and does not require cutting the city curb.
As a condition of approval, staff said the city must be named as an additional insured on the property owner’s general liability policy with limits of no less than $1,000,000 to comply with FDOT’s permitting requirements (FDOT permit no. 2025L59000001). The commission approved the recommendation without public opposition.
During the discussion Commissioner Tomolte requested that the city consider reinstalling a bench that had been removed at the site after damage during previous tenant activity. Staff and commissioners noted property owner responsibility for onsite amenities but did not attach a bench‑replacement condition to the motion.
The action authorizes staff to provide FDOT documentation that Cocoa Beach approves the paver addition, subject to the insurance condition and standard interlocal responsibilities for maintenance.
