Burlington voters approved a charter amendment that will allow the Burlington City Council to propose changes to ward and council-district boundaries without sending those proposals to the Vermont Legislature, Burlington City Attorney Jessica Brown told the House Government Operations & Military Affairs Committee on May 15, 2025. “There were 9,823 ballots cast, 6,351 in favor of the redistricting charter change proposal. So that was almost 69%,” Brown said.
The amendment keeps a voter-approval step but removes the current requirement that boundary changes be enacted by the General Assembly.
