Metro Academic and Classical High School honors Class of 2025, highlights IB program and top graduates

Metro Academic and Classical High School held its 2025 commencement in Saint Louis to confer diplomas on the Class of 2025 and recognize academic and extracurricular achievements. By the power vested in her by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Board of Education of the City of Saint Louis, Superintendent Dr. Millicent Borchade certified the graduates and presented the class for conferral.
The ceremony highlighted Metro’s International Baccalaureate courses and diploma program. Jeremy Van Pelt, Metro’s IB coordinator, outlined the program’s requirements — year-end assessments, internal assessments (IAs), the extended essay and the theory of knowledge course — and recognized 15 students who completed the IB diploma sequence. Staff and the parent–teacher organization were thanked for supporting IB teachers and extended essay supervisors.
College counselor Zachariah Young said the 70 graduates will matriculate to 38 institutions and recognized the school’s highest academic achievers, including salutatorian Calvin Wang and co-valedictorians Brandon House and Mina Rapisi. Student speakers emphasized perseverance, intellectual curiosity and community: Brandon House urged classmates to keep working hard and pursue passions; Mina Rapisi encouraged graduates to stay curious and engage critically with their communities.
Graduation traditions and recognitions were also part of the program. Students were acknowledged for honor cords and stoles representing the IB program, community service, National Honor Society, student council, the Asian Student Association, the Black Student Union, Hispanics of Metro and the Four Honors Club. The ceremony concluded with the longstanding Metro “hug” tradition and the formal turning of tassels before the presentation of diplomas.
The event featured remarks from Superintendent Dr. Millicent Borchade, administrators and student leaders that focused on graduates’ academic accomplishments and calls to continue learning and civic engagement. No formal policy decisions, motions, or votes were part of the ceremony.
