Sandy Springs starts Phase 1 of Lake Forest Drive sidewalk; Phase 2 in design

Sandy Springs city staff announced that Phase 1 of the Lake Forest Drive sidewalk project has begun, building more than 1,200 linear feet of sidewalk on the west side of Lake Forest Drive and expecting construction to finish in fall of this year. A city staff member said crews will close a lane daily in the work area while crews are at work.
The announcement detailed the Phase 1 alignment as running on the west side of Lake Forest Drive from 4838 to 4852 and again from 5022 Lake Forest Drive to the city limit. "This phase will construct more than 1,200 linear feet of sidewalk on the West side of Lake Forest Drive," the staff member said. The staff member added, "As always, be sure to use caution when driving through work zones."
City staff said Phase 2 is in design and is expected to start construction early next year. Phase 2 was described as including about 3,300 linear feet of sidewalk from the city limits to 4822 Lake Forest Drive, and then picking up at Pine Lake Drive and continuing to 4990 Lake Forest Drive. The staff member noted there will be continued work-zone impacts during construction.
The project is presented as a pedestrian-safety and connectivity improvement for residents who walk along Lake Forest Drive. The city did not specify funding sources or provide a detailed project schedule beyond "finish in fall of this year" for Phase 1 and "early next year" for Phase 2.
