The Columbia County Planning Commission on May 15 approved two routine residential requests: a provisional home-occupation to allow pottery production at 1420 Freeman Harris Road and a temporary use authorization to keep an existing mobile home on 7561 Lakeside Drive while a house is built.
Planning staff told the commission the Potter’s Cabinet (applicant Christina/Tina DeZetter) would use an existing detached garage for pottery production and intended to sell finished goods off-site at vendor shows rather than by customer visits to the property. Staff noted the operation met the square-footage limit for a provisional home occupation (less than 50% of the house) and that there would be no customer traffic to the site; staff recommended approval.
Applicant Tina DeZetter told the commission: "I literally only intend to clean mud in my back and hope somebody likes the end result." No members of the public spoke in opposition. A motion to approve the provisional home occupation carried unanimously.
The commission also approved a temporary use authorization at 7561 Lakeside Drive to allow an on-site mobile home while a new 41-by-30 house is constructed behind it. Will, the planning presenter, said the property is in the R4 zoning district and that the developer planned to remove the trailer after construction; staff recommended approval. Owner representatives (Brad and Brenda Slater were identified as homeowners; Mike Fleming spoke for Wesley UMC in support) offered no objections and no public opposition was recorded. The motion to approve the temporary use authorization carried.
Both approvals are administrative land-use actions that allow the described activities under existing code limits; any change to the scope of operations or customer traffic would require further review.
