Village OKs engineering contract for 2026 Des Moines Street reconstruction

The Village Board authorized a $159,570 engineering services agreement with Thomas Engineering Group to design the 2026 Des Moines Street reconstruction project.
Director Reese told the board the phase 2 design contract covers full reconstruction of Des Moines Street from Cass to Richmond, adding curb and gutter where none exists (from Warwick to Richmond), spot curb repairs (Cass to Warwick), resurfacing the full project length, surveying, soil borings, detailed engineering, contract documents, cost estimates and bidding assistance. The project is identified as the village’s 2026 Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) project.
Trustee Little moved to approve the engineering agreement and Trustee Barker seconded. The board approved the contract by roll call. Trustee and meeting remarks noted that residents on Des Moines Street would welcome the work once construction is complete; no construction contract was awarded at this meeting—staff will use the design documents to proceed to bidding and future construction approvals.
Director Reese said the contract amount is $159,570 for phase 2 design and that the village expects to proceed with surveying and design work as the next steps.
