Westwood roof bid comes in under estimate; kindergarten enrollment trending lower, finance director says

Dan, the district’s finance presenter, told the board on May 12 that Greenwood Industries submitted the winning bid for the Westwoods roof project at $1,660,000, below the $2.1 million project estimate. Greenwood has prior Farmington experience, Dan said.
Dan also said kindergarten enrollment is trending lower than projections; he estimated the decline might amount to roughly two fewer kindergarten sections across the district’s four schools. He advised the board that it was too early to make definitive staffing or class‑structure decisions and that the district will continue to monitor enrollment as registration continues.
Board members asked whether the enrollment dip could stem from kindergarten cut‑off changes or housing market conditions; Dan said both factors likely contribute, including slower home sales and affordability pressures that reduce young‑family moves into town. He noted that lower enrollment can also provide flexible class‑size options and relieve pressure in temporary hot spots but cautioned that district staff will keep watching figures before proposing budget adjustments.
