Veronica, a district staff member who presented the teacher program leadership list, said the appointments support districtwide and school‑level leadership, help maintain coherence across grades and provide growth opportunities that help retain teachers.
"This level of leadership is essential in both accelerating ongoing district and school improvement work," Veronica said, adding that teachers apply for leadership roles annually and principals decide placements.
A board member asked whether long‑standing leaders might be removed from direct classroom teaching and risk losing current instructional practice. Veronica and other administrators said many leadership positions still include teaching duties — department leaders often maintain one or two class sections — and specialists model lessons and coach teachers. She said some roles are intentionally designed to have turnover so other teachers can pursue leadership experience, while other specialist roles require larger investments and continuity.
The board was told a small number of team leader positions remained "TBD" due to hiring or grade‑assignment changes; staff expect to finalize most openings within two weeks and notify appointees by June. Several trustees thanked administrators for sustaining mid‑tier leadership roles as a path to administration.
