Kuna district awards blacktop resurfacing and Hubbard‑annex roof contracts

The Kuna Joint District Board approved two maintenance contracts: one to resurface district parking lots and playground blacktop and a separate roof contract for the Hubbard annex.

Assistant Brian Graves told the board the asphalt project is part of the district’s House Bill 521 modernization funding list and that bids were substantially lower than anticipated. Graves said bids for districtwide resurfacing ranged widely by scope and sitework; the board accepted the lowest responsive bid from Curtis Clean Sweep for $325,504 and authorized staff to return with alternates for additional work (including the Keuna High School parking configuration) after architectural and engineering plans are completed.

The board also approved a contract with DNA Roofing Co. to replace the Hubbard annex roof for $66,260. Trustees were told the annex roof insulation was in better shape than expected after core samples, which reduced the estimated scope. Trustee discussion flagged that if the district later decides to build a new middle school (a capital‑planning question), the board might defer major investments at the current middle‑school site.

Graves noted one operational point: a small strip of gravel parking used at some schools will degrade without maintenance and will eventually require full replacement if not resurfaced; the approved work focuses on prioritized blacktop surfaces.

Motion and vote: The board approved the Curtis Clean Sweep asphalt bid and the DNA Roofing Hubbard‑annex roof contract by recorded voice votes (all aye). Staff said the district will return to the trustees with additional alternates and engineering cost estimates for larger projects at Kuna High and other campuses.
