The Tyler City Council approved an amended resolution to nominate Highland Dairy Foods Company for designation under the Texas Enterprise Zone Program, a state sales-and-use-tax refund program intended to encourage private investment and job creation.
Heather, a staff presenter, described Highland Dairy (founded 1938) as a processor and distributor that operates multiple plants across the region. She said the company's current expansion at the Tyler site would generate up to $98,000,000 in new private investment, create about 30 new jobs with an average pay near $66,000 a year, and add more than 90,000 square feet of dry and refrigerated storage and production space. Heather said the expansion would increase production lines to eight, with space for two additional lines in the future.
The amended resolution clarifies elements of a previously approved item and reflects that at least 35 percent of the business's new hires must be residents of an enterprise zone, economically disadvantaged individuals or veterans to qualify for the program.
Tyler Economic Development Council staff members Tara and Angie were acknowledged during the presentation. Council voted by voice to approve the amendment.
