Board accepts Ellsworth Construction low bid for west parking lot; finance office reports $556,000 activity-fund ending balance

The Bethany Public Schools Board of Education voted to accept the lowest bid from Ellsworth Construction for the west parking lot project at the board’s May 20 meeting and approved associated encumbrances.
During the presentation, district staff said the west parking lot bid came in lower than expected; the board voted by roll call to accept Ellsworth Construction as the contractor and to move forward with the parking-lot contract. The motion passed with recorded yes votes from board members present.
In the business office report, the district reported an activity-fund ending balance for April of about $556,000. Staff noted a small number of negative activity-account items that are being corrected by deposits and said they expect those adjustments to be minor. The presentation also said the district has adjusted its budget based on an amendment from the prior month and that projected carryover if current revenue collections and expense patterns hold is about $4.28 million; the business office stated a target carryover goal of roughly $4,000,000 for the year.
The board approved encumbrances as presented and accepted the parking-lot bid; staff said the bid-analysis attachment included in the board packet shows the contractor was the lowest responsible bidder. The district will proceed with contracting steps and encumbrance processing for the parking-lot work.
