The Bradenton City Council on May 14 opened public hearings and advanced two ordinances that change how the city regulates waterfront uses in certain districts.
The first ordinance (ordinance 4,059) would amend the City of Bradenton’s land-use regulations to add docks and piers as either permitted or special uses in the urban-village zoning district. Planning staff noted that the item was advertised to allow council to choose whether docks/piers should be permitted by right or require special-use review; staff had initially proposed a permitted use while Planning Commission recommended treating the use as a special use. Council opened the public hearing and scheduled a second reading and final public hearing for May 28.
The second ordinance (ordinance 4,060) addresses use of the public day dock at Riverwalk Park and would permit overnight mooring of authorized vessels at that location. Staff presented the ordinance and council set the second reading and public hearing for May 28 as well.
No substantive public testimony was offered at the May 14 hearings. Council did not take final action on either ordinance on May 14; both were moved to the May 28 meeting for final reading and adoption.
