A board member recommended adding language to the policy that would permit students to use AI tools — “example given language generators, image creators, grammar correctors” — only when explicitly allowed by a teacher and require disclosure of AI use. The board member said, “Use of AI to complete assignments must be transparent, and students are expected to disclose when and how AI tools have been used. AI generated content submitted as original work without disclosure may be considered a violation of academic honesty policies.”
The proposed language would also prohibit using AI to create harmful, harassing or deceptive content aimed at students or staff. The board agreed to bring the amended language back as a first reading at the next meeting for further consideration.
