At its May 14 meeting the Miami Gardens City Council presented Resident’s Choice Awards recognizing four local businesses selected by resident nominations and an online questionnaire.
Councilwoman Michelle Pyle announced the winners and described the award’s criteria: customer service, appearance, quality of products or services, and community engagement. Nominations opened in January and closed March 30, and winners were chosen based on the highest resident nominations.
The awardees announced at the meeting were Little Stars Academy Preschool (representative accepted on behalf of owner Chantrell), Daniel Dentistry (owner Dr. Daniel; 636 NW 3rd Street), CoSPACE (owner Joy; 17560 NW 20th Avenue, Suite 105) and The Oasis at Miami Gardens (Danny Felton, president and CEO). Several winners spoke briefly about why they located or started their businesses in Miami Gardens and thanked residents for the recognition.
Council members and staff encouraged continued resident input on local businesses and said the city plans another Resident’s Choice Awards in about six months.
Why it matters: The awards are a civic recognition program designed to highlight small businesses that residents say provide quality service and engage with the community; the program also serves as a promotional effort for neighborhood commerce.
