Hunt County Commissioners hear youth reports, honor 4‑H participants at county fair update

Hunt County staff and 4‑H members updated the commissioners on the recent Hunt County Fair, recognizing exhibitors, sale-of-champions participants and scholarship recipients.
Mary Shockley, identified as a program assistant, told the court the fair featured more than 70 exhibitors in livestock, breeding shows, creative arts, livestock judging and ag mechanics. She noted “22 members made the sale of champions from all 5 of our clubs,” and highlighted scholarship and award winners by name, including Shelby Pullen, who received a $2,000 Phil Garrett memorial scholarship.
Several 4‑H members addressed the court to thank county officials for support. Erin Beal of Greenville, identified herself as a Greenville Club member and said the fair provided opportunities she could not get at her charter school: “Without y’all support of this county, we would not be able to do this.” Other youth — Connor Myers, Olivia Myers, Camden Matthews, Logan Hall and Leighton Hall — spoke about placings, sale results and the skills they gained through 4‑H.
Commissioners applauded the youth and approved placement of the fair report on the minutes. The court also allowed a brief photo opportunity with participants.
