The county Budget and Finance Committee approved the county buildings budget line with a minor correction after staff described planned HVAC replacements and lighting upgrades.
The committee’s action came after Commissioner Bubba Gregory asked whether the large revenue and expense shifts included impact fee allocations and whether building improvement funds remained available. Finance staff responded that the line item for building improvements (account 707) showed $35,000 budgeted last year with $15,000 actually spent the prior year and that no planned building moves were currently projected. Facilities staff said several HVAC units are near the end of their useful lives and that the county is converting some facilities from ballast and fluorescent lighting to LED, which has driven the request to retain funding.
Commissioner Bubba Gregory moved to approve the buildings budget with a minor typographical correction to a line total; the motion carried unanimously after a voice vote. The committee chair characterized the net effect as a $17,006.89 positive to the bottom line (a decrease in budgeted expenditures).
Committee members asked who performs maintenance; staff identified Danny Blair as the maintenance contact. Commissioners also noted some line items had decreased from the prior year even as some targeted repairs remain necessary, and staff said specific remodeling for offices including Rosalie’s and Cindy Carmen’s offices is expected to draw on the same building-improvement funds.
The committee approved the line items as presented with the corrected totals; staff said they will monitor expenditures and bring any needed amendments back to a future meeting.
