Beavercreek seeks Greene County CDBG to expand senior center reception area, improve ADA service

Zach, a parks staff member, told the board the city already has funds budgeted for the workspace renovation but applied for the CDBG to enhance the project. "We applied for another $51,000 last Thursday ... If those if we are, awarded that grant, those funds become available in March of 26," Zach said.
Why it matters: staff said the additional money would allow them to enlarge the scope beyond the existing budgeted work, improving accessibility and circulation in the reception and service area. Planned changes include lowering the customer-facing countertop to create ADA-accessible service windows and reconfiguring back-of-house counters and circulation so staff and volunteers with mobility devices can move more easily.
Details: staff described additional elements that could be funded if the grant is awarded: painting and new bench seating with backrests and armrests and storage under benches; creating a beverage station to replace vending machines; and replacing lobby furniture. Zach said some preparatory steps — architectural review, drawings and selective furniture purchases — could proceed before construction if necessary, but that the enhanced project would likely move from fall/winter into mid-2026 if the grant is awarded.
Timeline and process: staff said Greene County will select two grants at its meeting on the 29th of the month; project funds, if awarded, would be available in March 2026. The board received this as an informational update; no formal board action to change the project scope was recorded at the May 13 meeting.
Next steps: staff said they will report back after the county's grant selection; if the award is confirmed, staff anticipate updating designs and the construction schedule.
