City manager says bids for planned subdivisions fit CIP allocation; construction expected this summer

City Manager Moore updated the Fond du Lac City Council on May 14 that bids for subdivision work described in this year’s capital improvement plan (CIP) are within the $1.5 million allocation and that staff intends to move forward.
Moore described two development sites in east Fond du Lac. One is located off Fourth Street near Highway 151 adjacent to Holy Family’s campus; the other is near Aurora Hospital and will connect a stub road to Kaye Avenue. He said, “we can afford the bids. We had allocated a million and a half, you may remember, in the capital improvement plan. And so we'll be able to afford to move forward, which is good news.”
Moore said residents should see progress on the projects “throughout the summer.” Councilmember Schuessler sought clarification about locations and nearby visible construction; Moore explained that some nearby dirt-moving relates to a privately funded residential subdivision rather than the city-funded CIP work. Councilmember Heisler asked whether the CIP budget number was a reliable gauge for future projects; Moore said market conditions vary and that many new houses are being built on preexisting streets with existing utilities, while the subdivision projects discussed would require new street and utility work.
The update did not include a vote or formal council directive; it was presented as an informational staff report. No contract awards or construction start dates were formally adopted during the meeting.
