Board approves pedestrian crossing improvements at Shepherd Avenue and Stonegate Drive

The Board of Polyquarks and Capital Assets on May 13 approved installation of pedestrian crossing improvements at the intersection of South Shepherd Avenue and East Stonegate Drive.
Andrew Ledger, design engineer, told the board engineering received requests from Stonegate subdivision residents and proposed marking a legal crosswalk by adding sidewalk ramps and pavement markings. Ledger said the marked crossing would create a legal crosswalk that requires motorists to yield and that exhibits in the packet show the conceptual improvements.
Staff estimated the work would likely cost between $15,000 and $20,000 and said they might partner with the public works department to use existing sidewalk funding. Ledger said there is no crash history at the location that typically drives grant eligibility, meaning grant funding is unlikely. The proposed work also includes ramp and sidewalk adjustments on the east side where sidewalk portions are missing.
Marshall moved to approve the installation; the motion passed by roll call. Staff said they would coordinate with Public Works on markings and potential paint/parking stall refreshes, but did not give a construction start date.
