Fond du Lac City Council approves alcohol waivers for summer events and downtown markets

The Fond du Lac City Council on May 14 unanimously approved multiple resolutions waiving the prohibition on possession of alcoholic beverages on specified public ways for a series of community events this summer and fall.
City Clerk Ms. Hefter introduced the special-event requests and said city departments had approved the applications with conditions that no glass containers or carry-ins would be permitted in designated areas. Council members then moved and seconded separate resolutions for each event; all measures passed unanimously.
Resolutions and motions recorded at the meeting include:
- A permit for Fond du Lac Festivals Inc. to sell fermented malt beverages at Lakeside Park during Walleye Weekend in June 2025 (motion by Councilmember Mullen; second by Councilmember Leering). Staff recommended approval with the no-carry-in condition.
- Resolution No. 9177 waiving the prohibition on possession of alcoholic beverages for Thelma Sadoff Center’s Thursday concerts (May 29–Sept. 4, 2025) (motion by Councilmember Godfrey; second by Councilmember Heisler).
- Resolution No. 9178 waiving the prohibition for two major street concerts on June 14 and Aug. 8, 2025 (motion by Councilmember Heisler; second by Councilmember Schuessler).
- Resolution No. 9179 allowing a temporary expansion of premises for Thelma Sadoff Center pop-up events (motions by Councilmember Godfrey; second by Councilmember Heisler).
- Resolution No. 9180 waiving the prohibition for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Fond du Lac County’s “Halloweeny 0.5K” on Oct. 31, 2025; event limited to participants 21 and over (motion by Councilmember Schisler; second by Councilmember Leering).
- Resolution No. 9181 waiving the prohibition for Downtown Fond du Lac Partnership night markets on specified Thursdays in June, July and August and expanding premises on Main Street from Division Street to Forest Avenue and a portion of Sheboygan Street (motion by Councilmember Godfrey; second by Councilmember Mullen).
In each case, city staff’s approvals included the condition that no glass containers or carry-ins be allowed in the designated alcohol areas. The council did not record individual roll-call vote tallies during the meeting; each item passed by unanimous voice vote as announced by the presiding officer.
