Recreation staff provided route details for an upcoming parade during the Development Review Committee meeting on May 14, and city staff warned parade organizers to expect significant costs for off‑duty police to support rolling roadblocks.
Lexi, a recreation staff member, described the route: the parade will proceed down Tenth Street, turn onto Marvin Z. Sanders Avenue, cross Michael Gladden Boulevard, turn left onto Sixth Street, then return to Tenth Street and end at Alonzo Williams. "Any questions for Lexi?" the chair asked after the route description.
A city staff member cautioned that organizers need to be informed early that they will be responsible for paying off‑duty officers and other event costs. Staff said organizers should be made aware of approximate staffing needs well before event day so they can weigh feasibility. One reviewer estimated the traffic control will require about "10 to 15 police officers to do a rolling roadblock for their parade." Organizers reportedly expect roughly 100 attendees, and staff said the projected officer count may make the event much more costly than organizers realize.
Staff asked recreation to coordinate with the organizer and provide a cost estimate for off‑duty police so the group can decide whether to proceed. The committee did not take a formal vote; staff directed recreation to follow up with the event organizer to confirm costs and logistics.
