Talbot County announced the kickoff of its update to the 2016 comprehensive plan and launched an online engagement portal and community survey to gather public input on housing, land use, transportation and community services.
Assistant Planning Director Bryce Yealton told the council the county is at the “onset” of the planning process and emphasized outreach. “Every 10 years, we take a fresh look at our comprehensive plan,” Yealton said, and urged residents to visit engage.TalbotCountyMD.gov/compplan to take a 10–15 minute survey.
The nut graf: The planning office emphasized public engagement before drafting plan language; staff said marketing materials (posters, QR codes in municipal lobbies and courthouse flyers) and a community kickoff meeting will follow, and the office expects to complete the update before the end of the council’s current term (targeting fall 2026).
Yealton demonstrated the engagement site and said about 250 residents (and some non-residents) had already responded to the survey in the project’s early days. Sarah Kilman, communications coordinator, has set up the site and marketing materials. Councilmembers praised the transparency push and encouraged further outreach to towns and community groups.
Ending: Staff will post the kickoff meeting date on the engagement portal and continue updating it with meeting materials and timelines; residents are invited to use the portal to submit comments and sign up for updates.
