The Board of Polyquarks and Capital Assets on May 13 authorized a credit of $11,550 to EK Contractors for the Yabenstein Park water extension project after agreeing to supply a pair of hydrants.
Staff explained the hydrant model had been allowed under the city’s specifications but had caused numerous operational problems. To avoid future issues, staff removed the hydrant model from the spec and offered to supply the hydrants for the contractor to install. The result is a credit to the contractor for supplying fewer hydrants.
The motion to authorize the utility engineer to approve Change Order No. 1 with EK Contractors for a credit of $11,550 was moved and seconded and passed by roll call.
Staff did not provide further detail at the meeting about which hydrant model will replace the removed design or the expected installation schedule.
