The Board of Polyquarks and Capital Assets on May 13 authorized a change order valued at $17,500 for work to move and fill a 16‑inch water main affected by the Pewds Liberty roundabout construction.
Staff said the roundabout construction required relocating a water main that would otherwise conflict with a planned storm sewer. Because the main is 16 inches — larger than the 12‑inch abandonment threshold — it must be filled when abandoned to prevent collapse and future sinkholes. The change order covers adding a lightweight concrete product over the abandoned main, which was not included in the original contract.
The motion to authorize the utility engineer to approve change order number 1 with A. W. Oaks and Sons on the Pewds Liberty Water Relay Project passed by roll call. Board members voting in the affirmative were recorded during the roll call.
Staff did not provide a longer-term schedule impact or say whether the change order will affect the project’s funding sources beyond the stated amount.
