Chair Hassid introduced and welcomed new board counsel Tom Barnes, who joined the agency last week and attended his first board meeting. Barnes was present for the opening remarks and said, “It's a pleasure to be here.”
General Counsel Julie Montgomery and other staff recounted outreach work in May. Montgomery and staff listed activities including in-person worker trainings in Taft and McFarland (Kern County), a mobile clinic in Kern County (Bakersfield), participation at events with the Mexican consulate in Calexico and Imperial County, a spring resource fair hosted by Assemblywoman Soria in Fresno County, an Oaxacan community event in Watsonville (Santa Cruz County), a resource fair with Assemblywoman Sawyer's office in Huron (Fresno County), and a wage clinic in Santa Maria.
Montgomery said staff continue to hold office hours in Lamont (Kern County) to reach outlying areas. Chair Hassid also briefly noted an ALRB “ALRA at 50” staff celebration scheduled for Thursday, May 22, and asked board members to notify organizers if plans changed so headcount could be accurate. No formal board action was taken on outreach items during the meeting.
