The Martinsville City Redevelopment Commission announced a special meeting in late May to reopen bids for a paving and streetscape project on city-owned lots at Morgan and Wayne streets after staff said a once-weekly newspaper publication schedule prevented timely public notice for an earlier special meeting.
At the commission’s attorney report, Joe (attorney) said the earlier bid had an old date because the public notice did not run in time in the weekly newspaper, requiring the commission to re-post and re-bid the project. He asked members to hold a special meeting to open bids in late May at 7:30 a.m. at city hall. The scope described in the packet includes paving, sidewalks and some electrical work; staff said the work will also create additional parking ahead of courthouse renovation work by the county.
Commissioners asked staff to put the special meeting on their calendars; staff asked members to note the meeting time and attend so the commission can open bids, consider award recommendations and move the project forward for construction. No final contract award was made at the May 14 meeting; the special meeting was scheduled to receive and open rebids and then return to the commission for award.
