ALRB staff brief board on several labor bills moving through Sacramento

Legislative lead Mikayla briefed the board on a slate of bills the agency is tracking during the appropriations season.
Mikayla identified AB 288 (McKenna) as referred to the appropriations suspense file; she said the bill would allow parts of National Labor Relations Board functions to be taken over in California if the federal agency chose not to prosecute certain cases. AB 552 remained in Assembly appropriations and discusses a possible temporary move of the ALRB headquarters, according to Mikayla.
She said AB 845 (Aguiar-Curry) was placed in the suspense file on May 7 and would codify a portion of a rural strategic engagement plan. Mikayla called AB 1109 (Gonzalez and others) “the organizer and representative employee privilege” bill and reported it had passed to the Senate and received its first reading there. AB 1300 remains a two-year bill and is being removed from active tracking, she said.
SB 470 (Laird), described as a Bagley-Keene reform bill, was on its third reading in the Senate floor; SB 846 (McNary), which Mikayla said concerns removal of a limited private partnership clause in a section of the labor code, was sent to the consent calendar on May 18.
Mikayla told the board the agency would continue to track these measures; she did not request formal board action during the meeting.
