The Wyoming Valley West School District board announced on Wednesday that it has selected Dr. Soufan to serve as the district’s next superintendent. Dr. Soufan addressed the board and community, thanking members and saying he considers the district “home.”
Dr. Soufan, the superintendent‑designate, told the board he will prioritize capital improvements, cash flow, curriculum, and safety. “We’ll continue to look at improving capital, cash flow, education, curriculum, safety and security, and all decisions I can promise you this, will be in the best interest of the children, the staff, and the community, not what's easy, not what's best for adults,” he said.
Board members and administrators publicly thanked the outgoing superintendent, Mr. Tosh, for his years of service. Several board members praised the pool of candidates who applied and said they are committed to a smooth transition. Board member Keating said he gave Dr. Soufan his vote of confidence and that the board looks forward to working with the new superintendent.
The selection followed the district’s personnel and candidate review process; board members said the choice resulted from multiple interview rounds and deliberations. The board did not provide an exact transition timeline during the public comments recorded at the meeting. District officials said they will work with staff and the community on the transition and next steps.
