Administration to bring MOU for Pre-K Counts teachers' step/column pay to May legislative meeting

Assistant superintendent/staff presented a memorandum of understanding (MOU) the board will consider at the May legislative meeting to move Pre‑K Counts teachers onto the district step-and-column salary schedule consistent with comparable classroom teachers.
Administration said the Pre‑K Counts program is 100% state grant funded, currently serves 54 students in three classrooms (two at Washington Elementary, one at the high school/FCS preschool), and has continued for seven years. Under current CBA language Pre-K teachers are compensated up to Bachelor Step 3; the proposed MOU would transition those teachers to the regular step-and-column placement based on years of service and credits.
The MOU proposal includes a hold-harmless/reversion clause: if state funding is reduced or ends, the district would revert to the original CBA language; if the program is discontinued by the state, teachers would be eligible to bid for other district positions. The administration said the MOU will be on the May 27 legislative agenda for board consideration.
