The resolution pauses routine hiring but allows departments to request exceptions in writing. "The folks that are seeking an exception to the rule would have, put in writing to the board of commissioners a justification as to why the position's still needed," Danzel said.
Mr. Danzel told commissioners the freeze is meant to give the county time to assess finances and that exceptions would permit necessary hires to proceed with board approval. When a commissioner asked whether the freeze had an end date, Danzel replied, "That is correct, sir," meaning the freeze would remain in place until the board acted to remove it.
After brief discussion about taking proactive steps to protect the county's balanced budgets, the board voted to approve Resolution 2025‑151 by voice vote. The resolution allows the board to consider exception requests in writing and does not automatically end on a specified date; removal would require subsequent board action.
