Centre County renews contract with Pennsylvania State Police for funded detective to target auto theft and organized crime

The Centre County Board of Commissioners approved a renewal of the county’s agreement with the Pennsylvania State Police that fully funds a detective assigned to work with the district attorney’s office on investigations of auto theft and related organized criminal activity.
District Attorney Bernie Cantorna said the position is funded by the State Police and provides the county with a detective who has access to state resources, warrants and electronic investigative tools. Cantorna told commissioners the detective works regionally with police departments across central Pennsylvania and that many investigations escalate to federal partners.
Commissioners and Cantorna noted the detective shares office space in the district attorney’s office and the arrangement imposes no additional county salary cost. Commissioner Dersham said the detective’s work reaches beyond auto theft and provides a regional investigative resource.
The board moved and seconded approval of the agreement; the motion carried.
