Airport committee flags beacon, windsock and PAPI maintenance; discusses weed control and tie‑down supplies

Members asked staff to provide specifications or photos to public works so the city can purchase replacement parts or a new beacon head if required.
The windsock pole and its illumination were discussed. Staff reported the windsock had been unbolted and repaired recently and that public works had been asked to look at the wiring for the light that had been dangling near the windsock assembly.
Members also discussed frequent replacement of approach lighting bulbs (precision approach path indicator bulbs) and noted they are halogen lamps that are not easily substituted with LEDs without specification changes. The committee noted public works can change those bulbs and that annual replacement rates are significant.
Ground maintenance topics included the perennial problem with “goat head” weeds. Committee members described pulling and spraying weeds before seed set and noted that large areas would be costly for the city to address; members suggested targeted removal around the pilot’s lounge and hangars. Committee members reported continuing use of donated tie‑down ropes stored in the pilot’s lounge and asked staff to restock spares.
Committee members directed staff to coordinate with public works on the beacon/windsock repairs and to return specifications or cost estimates to the committee.
