Christian County approves right-of-way form to help Nixa install 'Welcome' monument signs on Highway 14

The Christian County Commission voted unanimously May 15 to approve a formal right-of-way form that Nixa needs to use state grant funds to install two "Welcome to Nixa" monument signs on Highway 14.

Scott Godfrey, director of planning and development for the City of Nixa, told the commission the county’s formal sign-off is a routine step required by the grant process and MoDOT procedures. Godfrey said the plan calls for two modest monument signs — one on West Highway 14 and one on East Highway 14 — "slightly smaller signs" with backlighting; he confirmed the signs are not digital billboards.

The county’s approval was described as a non-opposition formality to help Nixa use money awarded from the Missouri Division of Tourism. The commission chair asked staff to sign and return the paperwork immediately; the record shows the county signed the form and delivered a copy to Godfrey after the vote.

Why it matters: the county’s signature clears an administrative step that allows Nixa to proceed with its use of grant funds and MoDOT permitting; the action does not transfer property or commit county funds.

Action taken: a motion to approve the agreement was made, seconded and passed "aye" by all three commissioners present; the clerk will retain the signed document for county records and supply a copy to the city.
