County submits comment letter on Holland Lake Lodge proposal, asks Forest Service for extended public engagement

Missoula County submitted a comment letter to the U.S. Forest Service on the initial public review of a proposal for Holland Lake Lodge, urging continued public engagement and flagging infrastructure and operations issues.
Chet Grauser, speaking for county staff, told commissioners the comment reiterates concerns previously raised by constituents and asks the Forest Service to consider extending the public engagement timeline beyond the typical period. He pointed to wastewater treatment and future operations and management plans as items that will likely require additional review if the project proceeds.
Grauser said the county previously submitted comments in May 2023 and that this letter represents an early step in a likely long public process: “As you go through the letter, you'll see that there's some initial comments just about things we've heard from constituents, care and kind of passion for the place, as well as some of the continued engagement, needs and kind of the high level of public involvement that both has, existed previously and will probably continue to exist for all of those reasons,” he said.
Commissioners thanked staff for the letter and indicated they expect additional opportunities for review and more pointed comments if needed later in the process.
