Port Richey CRA awards branding and wayfinding contract to KMA

The Port Richey Community Redevelopment Agency voted unanimously to award a contract for a branding and wayfinding plan to KMA after reviewing nine responses to a request for proposals.
The project ties to the CRA's recently adopted 2024 community redevelopment plan and aims to create gateway and wayfinding signage and a community brand. City Manager Matthew Cobler told the board that proposals ranged from $38,135 to $152,200 and estimated project timelines from 14 to 46 weeks.
Why it matters: A cohesive brand and a wayfinding system are intended to guide residents and visitors to key destinations and support redevelopment goals identified in the CRA plan.
Cobler said a selection panel consisting of himself, the operations manager and the CRA resiliency coordinator narrowed nine submissions to four finalists (Sky Design, KMA, SD2S and Guide Studios) and conducted virtual interviews. "KMA brings extensive experience in community-based branding and wayfinding projects," Cobler said, and the committee recommended KMA partly because it submitted the most cost-effective proposal and demonstrated an organized process during the interview.
Cobler also cautioned that a weak procurement or community process could produce results the city and community do not support. After a motion and a second, the board approved the award by voice vote. The CRA did not provide a contract number at the meeting.
