The Town of Nantucket Select Board on May 14 approved a purchase and sale agreement for 77 Bartlett Road to secure a site identified as suitable for a pumping station that will serve the Somerset area sewer, stormwater drainage and roadway capital project.
Tracy McDonald, town real estate specialist, explained the location was selected because it is low‑lying and suitable for a pump station necessary for the initial phase and that the acquisition also includes two single‑family homes that the town can utilize after project completion. The acquisition supports planned roadway and drainage improvements on Bartlett Road, Raceway Drive and Somerset Road and a future bike path connector to Hammock Pond Road.
Town counsel prepared and reviewed the agreement with the seller’s counsel, McDonald said, and asked the Select Board to approve and execute the purchase and sale.
The Select Board voted to approve and execute the agreement. The board did not state the purchase price in the meeting minutes and staff made no budget appropriation at the Select Board meeting.
Why it matters: The property acquisition secures a critical site for infrastructure required by the Somerset capital project and enables the town to proceed with planned sewer and drainage design and future non‑motorized connections.
Next steps: Closing as provided in the purchase and sale agreement; design and permitting for the pump station and associated road and drainage work will proceed in coordination with DPW and town engineering staff.
